ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation said Monday they will be outfitting conductors on the trains with handheld devices that will make it easier to check tickets for daily rides.
FDOT said conductors will be able to scan tickets and SunRail cards and not only see if riders have them, but make sure they're paying for the current ride.
Officials said they have only caught a handful of people not paying for rides. If someone is caught not paying for a ride, officials said they will be asked to pay at the next stop, leave the train or written a $50 ticket.
Transportation officials also said Monday the SunRail averaged just over 4,200 rides per day last week, which they say is on par with their projections for the first few weeks.
