Suspicious package sent to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz's office in South Florida

Suspicious devices sent to Obamas, Clintons, CNN New York offices

SUNRISE, Fla. – Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s office in Sunrise, Florida, was evacuated Wednesday morning after a suspicious package arrived in the mail, according to Sunrise police.

CBS Miami reports that the Broward Sheriff’s Office bomb squad was called in and was investigating the package that was sent to the building at 777 Sawgrass Corporate Parkway.

"We are working an investigation of a suspicious package near Sawgrass Corporate Parkway," Sunrise police tweeted. "Please stay out of the area of NW 8th St and NW 136th Ave."

“The police are currently at Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz's office - other elected officials are on heightened alert,” Florida Democratic Party spokeswoman Caroline Rowland said.

CNN reports that the package at Wasserman Schultz's office was addressed to former Attorney General Eric Holder. But that address was incorrect and the package was sent back to Schultz’s office since that was the return address. Authorities do not believe Wasserman Schultz sent the package.

The evacuation in South Florida happened hours after authorities in New York and Washington, D.C., said they intercepted suspicious devices intended for former President Barack Obama and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

The same return address was used for the Clinton and Obama suspicious packages.

CNN's New York bureau in the Time Warner Center was also evacuated after a suspicious package was discovered in the building.

A law enforcement official said the devices intended for Obama and Clinton appear to be rudimentary but functional, and similar to the ones sent to the home of billionaire investor and major Democratic donor George Soros, which was discovered earlier this week.
