PINE HILLS, Fla. – A 46-year-old mother of three was critically wounded early Tuesday when she was struck by a bullet inside her Orange County home during a drive-by shooting, deputies said.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office said Elouise McAnuff, 45, was injured in the shooting, which was reported around 2 a.m. on Carousel Road.
McAnuff was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition. She was later listed in stable condition and is expected to survive, deputies said.
Her three children, boys ranging in age from 15 to 18, were asleep at the time of the shooting and were not injured, deputies said. A friend was also staying at the home and was not hurt, family members said.
Deputies said multiple gunshots were fired into the home, but the motive for the shooting is not known.
The victim's husband arrived at the home and was visibly upset after learning his wife had been shot.
He said he was at his brother's house when one of his sons called and said, "Mom was shot."
He said as many as 15 shots were fired, and one bullet struck his wife in the shoulder while she was checking on their sons.
"Detectives believe this is an isolated incident; however, they would like anyone with information to call Crimeline at 800-423-8477," deputies said in a news release.
Deputies went door to door asking neighbors if they saw or heard anything.
Investigators have not released any information about possible suspects or a vehicle description.
