We are less than two weeks away from the first day of school. I don’t know about you, but I’m already looking forward to when we get temperatures in the 80s.
Thank you for opening my email, I’m News 6 producer Brooke Savage, the writer behind this Setting The Stage newsletter.

The picture above is from Missy Elliott’s “Out of this World” concert with Ciara, Busta Rhymes, and Timbaland. Missy put on a show with moving stages, intergalactic themes, virtual video walls, and an ensemble of dancers! I was definitely impressed.
What shows have you seen this week? If you’re looking for some ideas, I’ve got you covered.
➡ The American experience is on display in ‘Ragtime The Musical’
You can catch the musical from Little Radical Theatrics tonight through this weekend inside the Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater at the Dr. Phillips Center in Orlando.
The musical takes place in early 20th century America. It tells the story of three families from three different backgrounds, and their pursuit of the American dream while living in New York. I had the chance to hear from three of the actors representing those families. They explained how they really relate to their characters and I posted the ticket information here.
🐇 ‘Alice by Heart’ brings a different take on ‘Alice in Wonderland’
The story set in the London Blitz during World War II, follows the life-altering experiences of young teen Alice Spencer and her friend, Alfred. Upon being quarantined, Alice and Alfred cope by turning to escapism through the cherished classic book and “travel down the rabbit hole” to “Wonderland.” Our intern, Kendal Asbury, helped me put together everything you need to know about the show performing tonight and tomorrow at ME Theatre in Orlando near Universal.
🔴 What would you do for your dreams? See ‘Tootsie’ at this Central Florida theatre
Based on the hit comedy film starring Dustin Hoffman, “Tootsie” is about skilled actor, Michael Dorsey, and his struggle to keep a job. He decides to make his dream come true by taking on a new persona, an actress named Dorothy Michaels. The decision helps in his rise to stardom, but he soon starts to fall for his co-star, Julie. The show follows Michael as he realizes maintaining this disguise to keep his rising acting career is going to be much harder than he expected. See how you can check out the show now through August 18 at Titusville Playhouse here.
🎨 There’s some free events at Orlando Museum of Art this weekend
Tomorrow and Sunday, the museum is offering free tours and art classes for people with memory or neurological impairments, and for people on the autism spectrum. You do have to pre-register. I posted the details about what to expect from the Saturday and Sunday events.
