Can you come out tonight?

"Jersey Boys" performing at Osceola Arts. (Patrick Murphy)

Just so you know, that headline is a lyric to a song, but I felt it was very relevant because there’s some great shows to check out this weekend.

We have quite the options to choose from! Let’s take a look. ⬇

"Jersey Boys" at Osceola Arts features some iconic songs from Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. (Ashley Willsey)

Starting tonight, you can see the smash-hit musical, “Jersey Boys” at Osceola Arts. The musical tells the story of how four kids from New Jersey formed The Four Seasons, their success in the 1960s, and what caused them to break up. Lee Markham plays Frankie Valli in the show. He told me how he spent hours preparing for the role. Click here for all the info.

🤴 Last weekend to catch “Pippin” in downtown Winter Garden

This is your last chance to catch the story of a young prince who learns the true meaning of glory, love, and war.

In this musical, you will notice it being more accessible for audiences who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Treshelle Edmond plays the Leading Player of Pull, which represents the non-hearing world around Pippin. She is on the right in the picture above. She was diagnosed with profound hearing loss at 18-months old. She told me about what it means to her to pave the way in theatre for others who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

The musical runs through Sunday. Click here to see what the show is all about.

🎶 A show with a cause

"Defiant Requiem" to include video testimony from Holocaust survivors and footage from a 1944 Nazi propaganda film. (Opera Orlando)

This weekend, you can catch a beautiful show from Opera Orlando where the proceeds will be donated to the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida.

Right now, the center is working on building a new museum in downtown Orlando, where visitors will learn the history of the Holocaust through state-of-the art technology and survivor testimonies.

“Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín” tells the story of how imprisoned Czech composer, Rafael Schächter, taught a chorus of fellow prisoners “Verdi’s Requiem” to sing in defiance of their Nazi captors. The concert recreates that performance while also including video testimony from survivors of the original Terezín chorus, and footage from a 1944 Nazi propaganda film about the Theresienstadt concentration camp. 👨‍⚕️😂 From nurse to... comedian?

Nurse Blake on Setting the Stage. (Copyright 2024 by WKMG ClickOrlando - All rights reserved.)

When you think of comedic standup shows, you don’t usually think about one based on a career in nursing, but Blake Lynch has found a way to establish a new category in comedy. After graduating from UCF in 2014, he worked at trauma centers across the country and started making funny videos as a way to cope with the stress of working as a nurse. Those videos turned into a massive following on social media, touring comedy shows, and a yearly nurse conference. I had the chance to chat with Nurse Blake about the transition to comedy. See his answer in my Setting the Stage podcast. By the way, you can catch him at NurseCon from Sept. 22-26 at Loews Sapphire Falls and in Melbourne on Dec. 3.

Get ready to step back to a time when you went to the library and picked out your favorite children’s book with the golden spine from Little Golden Books. I have such fond memories of doing that with my mom, and of her reading those books to me before bed.

The new exhibit at Orlando Museum of Art just opened last weekend. It includes all of the nostalgia with more than 60 masterpieces of original illustrations from the Random House archives.

Next Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., you can check out the exhibit for free! There’s also a free family day coming up in October. Click here for all the information you need.
