ORLANDO, Fla. – This week on “Black Men Sundays,” host Corie Murray interviews Charles F. Wallington, a C-suite executive and a chief marketing and communications officer.

Author of the book “A Seat at the C-Suite Table,” Wallington’s leadership experience within the healthcare, financial services and consumer-packaged goods industries bolsters his cachet to tell the stories of others like him.

“The topic of this book was the focus of my dissertation research and I was interested in the journeys of Black men to the C-suite because I am one of those,” he said. “I always wondered if my experiences were isolated to me or were there other men out there who had shared the same highs and lows that I had, and so that’s what made me do the research.”

In the book, Wallington showcases some 30 interviews, telling his subjects’ stories with insight on their successes as people of color.

“These men work for a variety of companies. 18 different companies, 12 different states including the District of Columbia, so they were scattered around the U.S. The size of the company varied. Some work for Fortune companies, some were leaders at nonprofits and everything in between,” he said. “...The guys talked about how they survived, right? And again, I don’t want to paint a picture that everybody’s story was doom and gloom because it was not. These men were very candid about what it has taken them through their lives and their careers to be successful and they acknowledged as a group that their faith, their friendship, their families and their fraternities have been really, really fundamental in providing that support.”
