Where to meet Central Florida candidates running in the November election

Events around Central Florida help you learn about the candidates

While there may be a lot of information circulating about national candidates, sometimes it is more difficult to find out the views, goals and intentions of state or local candidates who will be the ones directly running our surrounding community.

There are numerous political events that allow opportunities to learn about the candidates who are going to be asking for your vote in the General Election in November. Here is a list of some of them.

Brevard County

Brevard County Candidate Forum

  • When: Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where: Space Coast Health Foundation
  • What: This event provides an opportunity for Brevard County families and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to engage with local representatives and discuss the needs of the community concerning resources and services tailored to these underrepresented groups. This free event is made possible by the Brevard Autism Coalition and Angels Bridging Gaps.

NAACP Get Ready to Vote

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 21, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Where: Melbourne Auditorium, Melbourne
  • What: Voter education panel, showing of “The Fannie Lou Hamer Story,” and candidate panel. Tickets are $15.

Candidate Forum at Eastern Florida State College Cocoa

  • When: Tuesday, Oct. 1, 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • When: Eastern Florida State College, Cocoa campus, 1519 Clearlake Road, Cocoa
  • What: A candidate forum hosted by The League of Women Voters of the Space Coast. Event is free.

Lake County

Decisions 2024: Presentation on Florida Amendments

  • When: Several dates, starting Monday, Sept. 16
  • Where: Various locations around The Villages
  • What: The League of Women Voters is presenting a series of events to educate voters on the six amendments that will be on the ballot in November. Head to the league’s calendar for dates and locations.

South Lake County Candidate Forum, presented by Barrels and Boards

  • When: Sunday, Sept. 8, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where: 7965 State Road 50 A500, Groveland
  • What: A candidate forum at Barrels and Boards that is open to the public and all South Lake County candidates.

Lake County Candidates Meet and Greet

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
  • Where: Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Lake County in Eustis
  • What: Meet local candidates for office at this event hosted by The League of Women Voters of The Villages.

Orange County

Hot Topics: Orange-Osceola State Attorney Forum, presented by the League of Women Voters

  • When: Wednesday, Sept. 11, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Where: Winter Park Events Center, 1050 W. Morse Blvd., Winter Park
  • What: Hear from the candidates for state attorney of Orange and Osceola counties. Registration is required.

Ninth Judicial Circuit State Attorney Debate, presented by Tiger Bay Club of Central Florida

  • When: Friday, Sept. 20, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Where: Citrus Club, 255 S. Orange Ave., Orlando
  • What: Tiger Bay Club hosts a debate with the three candidates for state attorney of Orange-Osceola counties. Fee for nonmembers is $50 and includes lunch.

Citizens’ Summit 2024: Connecting With Elected Officials

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m.
  • Where: Orlando Florida (location TBA)
  • What: An opportunity to connect with community organizations, learn about voter rights, and meet with elected officials, presented by Framily Support Network.

Seminole County

County Commission District 5 Forum/Debate presented by the League of Women Voters

  • When: Thursday, Oct. 3, 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
  • Where: Decision Tactical, 430 Towne Center Blvd., Sanford
  • What: Hear from the candidates for Seminole County Commission, District 5. Event is free.

Volusia County

Meet the Libertarian Candidates for Region 7

  • When: Saturday, Aug. 31 at 2 p.m.
  • Where: Hopkins Hall, 221 North Euclid Ave., Lake Helen
  • What: Take part in a live Q&A with several Libertarian candidates running for office in November.

Meet the candidates for Volusia County office, hosted by the Republican Assembly of West Volusia

  • When: Thursday, Sept. 5 at 5:30 p.m.
  • Where: VFW Post 8093, 351 S. Charles Richard Beall Blvd., DeBary
  • What: Meet the candidates for Volusia County Council Chair.

Eggs and Issues: County Council Candidate Forum

  • When: Thursday, Sept. 12 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
  • Where: Halifax River Yacht Club, 331 S. Beach Street, Daytona Beach
  • What: Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce presents a forum with two candidates for Volusia County Council, District 2. Tickets are required.

Get Ready to Vote in November, presented by The League of Women Voters

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 28, starting at 10:30 a.m.
  • Where: The Palmetto Club, 100 S. Beach Street, Daytona Beach
  • What: The league will host a luncheon to educate voters on the six amendments on the November ballot. Cost is $22 and includes lunch.
