ORLANDO, Fla. – Vince Carter, a Daytona Beach native and former member of the Orlando Magic, will soon be a Hall of Famer, according to a published report.
Carter, who played for the Magic in 2009-2011, will officially be named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Most notably, Carter played for the Toronto Raptors from 1998-04. He also suited up for the New Jersey Nets, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks. For his 22-season NBA career, Carter averaged 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
Carter, the No. 5 overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft, will enter the Hall of Fame on his first year of eligibility.
Carter attended Mainland High School in Daytona Beach before heading to the University of North Carolina. He won the 2000 NBA Slam Dunk Contest and became well-known for his high-flying jams.
Former NBA Finals MVP Chauncey Billups, whom the Magic acquired via trade in 2000 although he never played a game for Orlando, will also be inducted, The Athletic reported.
