PORT ORANGE, Fla. – One of the best javelin throwers in the country is in Volusia County.
Preston Kuznof of Atlantic High School picked up javelin throwing on a whim only about 18 months ago.
“It was something like ‘Just pick it up, why not?’” Kuznof told News 6. “To be where I am now, I never saw this coming.”

Kuznof watched videos on YouTube to perfect his craft, and he has dominated the competition. His longest throw is over 67 meters, the best in Florida and second best in the United States.
The recent grad from Atlantic High School won his second straight state title this year. Kuznof was also recognized as the Volusia County male track athlete of the year. And recently, Kuznof won the USA Track and Field under-20 championship.
Come next year, Kuznof will be throwing for TCU.
“I went on a visit to [TCU], and it was amazing,” Kuznof said. “Everything about it - the area, the school, the coach; it just feels like home.”
