Bill Spencer

Investigative Reporter

Bill Spencer joined the KPRC 2 Investigates team in 2013 as an ultra-passionate investigative reporter.

For more than 38 years, he's been tracking down criminals, scam artists and killers.

One of Bill’s earliest investigations turned into a worldwide news story involving Pamela Smart, a New England high school media director who orchestrated the brutal murder of her husband Greg with the help of three of her high school students, including her 16-year-old lover.

For nearly two years, Bill broke every new detail in the twisted case, and was the only reporter in the world to interview Pamela Smart, multiple times, on camera before her arrest.

Two feature films resulted from the case, Murder In New Hampshire, starring Helen Hunt and To Die For, starring Nicole Kidman.
Bill worked on both films and played himself in one of the movies.

Another world-wide news story Bill helped break was the rescue of little Jessica McClure, who tumbled down a Texas oil well and was trapped for days.
For 58 hours straight, he covered the story live for both CBS News/World News and for KOSA TV in Midland, Texas.

Bill worked as both an investigative reporter and anchor at KLAS-TV in Las Vegas, KNXV-TV in Phoenix, and WXYZ-TV in Detroit before joining KPRC 2.

Since joining KPRC 2 in 2013, Bill’s exclusive investigations have exposed corrupt contractors, resulting in three of them being sentenced to prison.

He also created the Spencer Solves It project, in which Bill has helped literally hundreds of individuals and families in desperate situations helping to solve their problems.

During Bill's time in Detroit, he pioneered a groundbreaking national project, offering teen athletes comprehensive and costly heart screenings entirely free of charge, aimed at detecting hidden heart conditions. When Bill joined KPRC 2, he brought this life-saving initiative to Houston, helping launch the very same project right here.

In his personal life, Bill is a championship tennis player, having held the prestigious #1 rank in both Michigan and Texas, by the United States Tennis Association.

He is married to his beautiful wife Veronica, a fellow tennis enthusiast and fitness fanatic.

Beyond tennis, Bill's passions include skiing, rock music, barrel-aged beers, and drumming.
