Cody Weddle

Reporter

Cody Weddle joined Local 10 News as a full-time reporter in South Florida in August of 2022. Before that, Cody worked regularly with Local 10 since January of 2017 as a foreign correspondent in Venezuela and Colombia.

Cody has covered Latin America, specifically Venezuela and Colombia, for nearly a decade.

He reported from the streets of Caracas during the country’s political power struggle of 2019. As the country suffered through a catastrophic economic collapse, he documented the struggles of everyday Venezuelans attempting to fulfill their basic necessities.

Cody’s reporting drew the ire of the Venezuelan government in 2019 when armed military counterintelligence agents raided his Caracas home, eventually deporting him from the country.

Cody continued to cover Venezuela and Colombia from Bogota in the following years. He has reported on historic political upheaval, violent protests, and even from a small island in the Caribbean after a destructive hurricane.

Cody originally comes from rural Southwest Virginia in the Appalachian Mountains. His passion for news and current events dates back to a young age. In both middle school and high school, Cody and his fellow classmates started their school’s first ever daily news broadcast.

Cody graduated from Virginia Tech with degrees in electronic and print journalism and political science, and a minor in Spanish.

He’s fluent in English and Spanish, and is still working on Portuguese.
