The attraction, currently under construction near the front of the park, is the world’s first “Surf Coaster.”
Riders will feel the power of the ocean in a whole new way, making “Pipeline” every thrill-seeker’s newest obsession, the park described. “Pipeline” will take them on an unparalleled journey and will keep them coming back for more, SeaWorld said.
“We are always looking for exciting ways to take thrills to a new level. This first-of-its-kind roller coaster will be the perfect addition to the already incredible lineup of attractions at SeaWorld Orlando,” said Kyle Miller, SeaWorld Orlando Park president. “SeaWorld Orlando will be the only place in the world to ride a roller coaster like this and we welcome everyone looking for the chance to experience it.”
When guests board the roller coaster, they will step aboard a unique surfboard-shaped ride vehicle.
“We worked with our partner, B&M rides, and this is a newly patented ride vehicle that they have created -- and we’re integrating that into what we have here at SeaWorld,” said Clint Brinker, vice president of engineering of SeaWorld Orlando Parks. “The fun part is is deciding what kind of experience we wanted to give our guests and fitting that into the park, so we have this great opportunity both in the front of the park as they come in and see the energy of the wave.”
The ride will feature a number of thrills as it races up to heights of 110 feet in the air along the 2,950-feet of track. The surf coaster will send riders on a journey reaching max speeds of 60 mph, with five different airtime moments and lasting a total of 1 minute and 50 seconds.
“Pipeline: The Surf Coaster” has a projected height requirement of 54 inches.
When the coaster opens in spring of 2023, it will join a lineup of other exciting attractions, including Mako, Kraken, Manta and Ice Breaker.
“We see what we spent a great deal of attention developing this one of a kind of attraction for our thrill seeking guests by incorporating elements tied to the power of the ocean and the marine life that inspire the design,” said Jeff Hornick, vice president, Attraction Design & Development. “This is an attraction that can only be brought to you by SeaWorld. ‘Pipeline’ will be the seventh roller coaster at SeaWorld and solidifies the park as the roller coaster capital of Orlando.”
The park said all pass members will have the opportunity to be among the first to experience “Pipeline” with SeaWorld Orlando’s Passport to Thrills program. Annual pass members can have their annual pass scanned at the pass member lounge desk three times by Dec. 31, to receive a free one-time Quick Queue for “Pipeline: The Surf Coaster”.
