‘Universal’s Great Movie Escape’ officially opens to guests

New CityWalk experience offers 2 immersive escape rooms

ORLANDO, Fla.Universal’s Great Movie Escape is now open at Universal CityWalk.

The next-level escape room experiences transport guests into Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s iconic Jurassic World and Back to the Future films.

Over the past two and a half years, Universal’s entertainment team partnered closely with filmmakers and escape room industry experts around the country to create experiences that go beyond the typical escape room.

“We really wanted to make these experiences authentic,” said Nate Stevenson, show director at Great Movie Escape. “We immerse people into films, you know, that’s what we do. It feels like you’re actually inside the film and you’re actually a character.”

The escape room experience is located next to Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food and the Hot Dog Hall of Fame.

The adventure begins as soon as guests enter the lobby. Leaders created a 1920′s art deco, theater-inspired venue that pays tribute to Universal’s historic past.

“It’s a throwback to Universal Pictures - there’s a little bit of history. There’s history of just all the different ways we’ve interacted with guests throughout the years, you know, throughout those 100 plus years. So that’s kind of the theming inside. There’s bars and specialty drinks. It’s a really cool place to hang out even if you’re not buying a ticket,” Stevenson mentioned.

Each of the two escape rooms boast incredibly detailed environments featuring state-of-the-art activities that are randomized, customizable and designed to adjust based on skill level, complexity and size of your party.

“It’s constantly randomizing everything, it’s constantly adjusting to it,” Stevenson pointed out. “You’re never going to have the same experience twice.”
