In the wake of Walt Disney World’s grand entrance to the Central Florida theme park scene in 1971, SeaWorld emerged just a couple years later up the road on I-4 as a unique attraction, captivating visitors with its marine life exhibits, live shows, and encounters with dolphins, sea lions and killer whales.

When the park opened, it didn’t have any major theme park ride attractions like it does today. The park’s footprint was also fairly small with a majority of the land on the west side of the park’s central lake undeveloped.
In fact, the park’s first major ride was the opening of the Sky Tower, the park’s 400-foot tall observation deck, which still operates today.
Some of the headlining SeaWorld Orlando shows and attractions back in 1973 included the killer whale and dolphin show “Shamu Goes Hollywood,” the seal and penguin show, “Ding-A-Ling Bros. Circus,” and the Hawaiian Punch Village nestled on the shore of the park’s lake.
Throughout its history, the park has changed owners and evolved and expanded with a handful of new experiences and attractions.
Within the past decade, SeaWorld Orlando has added several new attractions including Mako, Ice Breaker, Pipeline: The Surf Coaster and the children’s area, Sesame Street Land. Next year, the park plans to open a new roller coaster being called “Penguin Trek.”
In honor of its 50th anniversary, SeaWorld is offering an exclusive gift to pass members commemorating its golden anniversary. Starting Dec. 15, visitors can pick up a free vintage poster at the Wild Arctic gift shop, providing a timeless keepsake that reflects the rich history and evolution of the park.
Pass members can also pick up a 50th-anniversary ornament at the Shoppes at Waterfront. Both items are available till supplies last.
Adding to the celebration, SeaWorld has unveiled an all-new 50th-anniversary commemorative hard-stock pass member card, featuring exclusive artwork by world-renowned artist and conservationist Guy Harvey. The park said the limited-edition card is now available in the Pass Member Lounge, with a $5 donation contributing to the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, aligning with SeaWorld’s commitment to marine conservation.
In addition to the anniversary festivities, SeaWorld Orlando is introducing new in-park dining options to enhance the visitor experience. Dockside Pizza, the latest culinary addition located near Orca Stadium, opened its doors last week, offering a delicious dining option included with All-Day Dining.
And for those craving a cool treat, SeaWorld Orlando officially welcomed Rita’s, specializing in Italian ice and frozen custard, conveniently situated near the thrilling Manta attraction.
As SeaWorld Orlando reaches this milestone, it stands as a testament to its enduring legacy in marine entertainment, conservation and education.
Next year, the park will host even more special experiences for guests as SeaWorld Parks celebrates its 60th anniversary.
