Named Mystic and Mayhem, these reptiles are a rare genetic variation within the American alligator population.
Distinct from albino alligators, characterized by pink eyes and complete pigment loss, Leucistic alligators exhibit white coloration with patches or splotches of normal color on their skin.
Mystic boasts the rare white skin and brilliant blue eyes, while her brother Mayhem, sports a darker skin.
Gatorland emphasized the sensitivity of these creatures to direct sunlight due to the absence of darker skin pigmentation, making them prone to sunburn over extended periods.
Due to this, the reptile park said they’re in the process of building a habitat for the two new additions in the White Gator Swamp.
Gatorland expressed pride in ensuring the proper care and maintenance required for these unique creatures, further highlighting their commitment to the welfare of the animals under their guardianship.
This milestone birth last year marks a significant contribution to the understanding and preservation of rare genetic variations within the American alligator species.
