LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – From popcorn carts, to Main Street Confectionery sweets, to even the distinct musty odor on “Pirates of the Caribbean,” there are smells all around the Magic Kingdom.

Starting in May, a whole new parade of smells will be coming to the theme park in the form of elephants.

Disney has revealed a first look of the installation of “Smellephants on Parade” presented by Scentsy, a search-and-sniff experience at the Storybook Circus.

Upon entering the land, guests will be greeted by a casting call posted by Timothy Q. Mouse, seeking out a “Whiff-sistant” to join Dumbo’s newest act. Search-and-sniffers can then grab an illustrated map of the land and a sticker sheet that will be handed out at the ticket booth in front of Big Top Souvenirs.

The first “Smellephant” to make its debut fittingly sports the famous circus snack of popcorn. Guests can expect additional statues themed with smells such as churro and cotton candy. Once installation is complete, there will be eight “Smellephant” statues scattered around the Storybook Circus area.

The complimentary and voluntary experience will be available to all, and Disney says even the “sensitive sniffer” will be able to enjoy it.

Disney parks have a history of enhancing smells to make the guest experience more magical. In 2019, Disney patented “scent blending” technology, a process through which the company produces memorable smells. At the time when the patent was filed, Disney wrote, “scent is arguably the most powerful human sense.”
