The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts began hosting the socially distanced Front Yard Festival in December 2020 to support the entertainment industry in Central Florida. The event features 380 metal pods spread out in the front yard of the Dr. Phillips Center. AdCurrently, the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has several shows planned for the festival through May.

There were no Hispanic speaking characters in 44 of the films; no speaking African Americans in 15 of them; and no speaking Asian characters in 36 movies. Female speaking characters have only marginally increased over the last 13 years, reaching 34% in 2019. People of color speaking characters also still lag behind the U.S. population with 34.3% in 2019. Just 1.4% of speaking characters were LGBTQ, and 2.3% were characters with disability.

Scott Weinger will now join Mena Massoud to sign autographs and meet with fans of the Disney films. The addition of Weinger comes nearly a month after MegaCon officials said Massoud would be attending. Weinger was set to appear at MegaCon last year with Linda Larkin, who voiced Jasmine, but both had to cancel due to scheduling conflicts. Massoud took on the lead role in Disney’s 2019 live-action “Aladdin,” and is also known for playing Tarek Kassar in Amazon’s “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan."

Dover Shores Elementary Schools is part of Disney Musicals in Schools, a program developed by Disney Theatrical Productions designed to create sustainable theater programs in under-resourced elementary schools. Phillips Center has offered DMIS to Title 1 schools in Central Florida for the last three years,” a press release by Dr. Phillips Center said. The school will perform a number from “Aladdin Jr.” at the arts center for the May “Student Share” event. Disney’s “Aladdin” will continue at Dr. Phillips Center through Feb. 9.
