The 28-year-old player was detained this week at the airport in Key West, Florida, by a Monroe County sheriff deputy. Toles rose from the low minors to the majors in just months and became a postseason star for the Dodgers in 2016. Toles had struggled with anxiety issues even before the Dodgers signed him to a minor league contract. He was the Tampa Bays minor league player of the year in 2013 but was released in 2015.
