Cracker Barrel posted lower-than-expected sales in its fiscal first quarter and lowered its revenue forecast for the year as it continued to feel the fallout from a botched plan to revamp its logo and restaurants.

Kraft Heinz said Tuesday that it is selling its natural cheese business — including its Cracker Barrel and Breakstone’s brands — to French dairy company Lactalis Group as part of a larger restructuring. Kraft Heinz, however, will keep its Philadelphia cream cheese brand, Kraft singles and the Velveeta and Cheez Whiz brands. Kraft Heinz — formed in a 2015 merger — has been struggling as consumers increasingly seek fresh, minimally processed foods. Kraft Heinz CEO Miguel Patricio said the sale of the natural cheese brands is an example of that portfolio management. Lactalis Group — whose brands include President specialty cheese and Stonyfield Organic yogurt — said the Kraft Heinz brands are a good strategic fit.

As Cracker Barrel reopens its dining rooms, the restaurant is looking to make some pretty big changes which it had planned prior to the coronavirus pandemic. The restaurant chain announced it was testing an alcohol menu, including beer, wine, hard ciders and orange and strawberry mimosas, at 20 of its Florida restaurants, according to Restaurant Business. In addition to alcohol sales, Cracker Barrel said its reducing its menu and developing a digital store offering food and retail items, Restaurant Business reported. Investing in Cracker Barrel will remain a capital allocation priority, Chief Financial Officer Jill Golder said in an interview. Restaurant Business also reported Cracker Barrell plans to open 15 of its smaller sister chain restaurants called Maple Street Biscuit Co.
