The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has added another hand sanitizer product to the should not use list.

The Food and Drug Administration has updated its list of hand sanitizers not to use because of the potential presence of methanol. “Methanol is not an acceptable active ingredient for hand sanitizers and must not be used due to its toxic effects,” the FDA said on its website. TITUSVILLE, Fla. – One person was injured Thursday in an explosion near a Titusville facility that produces hand sanitizer, officials said. The explosion happened around noon at Ocean Potion at 1419 Chaffee Drive. The victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with burn-related injures, Titusville fire officials said. State fire marshals will investigate the explosion, TFD tweeted.

OCONOMOWOC, Wis. – A Wisconsin fire department has issued an alert about keeping hand sanitizer inside vehicles. Firefighters say, under the right conditions, it could cause a fire. The Western Lakes Fire District posted a photo online showing a burned-out car door. Firefighters say a bottle of hand sanitizer sparked a fire. Despite the warning, some experts are disputing the claim, saying the temperature inside the car would need to reach 300 degrees for a fire to start.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A Florida middle school teacher has been suspended after school district officials found she used hand sanitizer to wash out the mouth of a student who was talking too loudly in her class. Palm Beach County school board on Wednesday approved a 10-day suspension without pay for Guyette Duhart, the Palm Beach Post reported. The student told administrators at Polo Park Middle School in Wellington that Duhart told him he needed to have his mouth washed out with soap on Oct. 14, the newspaper reported. Six students told Palm Beach County school district officials that the teacher grabbed a bottle of hand sanitizer and pumped it into the student's mouth, an investigative report said. Duhart admitted to school investigators that she put the hand sanitizer near the student's mouth but said that he grabbed the bottle and pumped it into his own mouth, the newspaper reported.
