Great Labor Day Hurricane (1935) -- The country's first Category 5 storm of the 20th century, the Great Labor Day Hurricane killed 408 people in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. This Category 4 monster sent many Floridians north for the Labor Day holiday weekend. Tropical Storm force winds extended out up to 400 miles from the center.
