Five men are rescued off Florida. LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Five men were rescued Saturday off Florida after spending 16 days at sea on a small man-made raft, officials said. The U.S. Coast Guard said the rescue took place about 2 miles southeast of Lake Worth Inlet. Lake Worth is located south of West Palm Beach on Florida’s east coast. “The men stated they had been at sea for 16 days since leaving Cuba,” the Coast Guard tweeted.

LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. – Sheriff’s deputies fatally shot a suspected carjacker who came at deputies with a filet knife during a traffic stop Tuesday night in Palm Beach County, the sheriff said in a late night news conference. Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the white man in his 20s had carjacked and stabbed an Uber driver earlier Tuesday evening in neighboring Broward County. Deputies stopped the vehicle around 8 p.m. and the man got out holding the knife, Bradshaw said. The sheriff did not identify or say how many deputies fired at the man. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office will investigate.

NEW YORK Five high school juniors, residing everywhere from Lake Worth, Florida, to Saratoga, California, have been named National Student Poets. A partnership between the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the student poet program was launched in 2011, with winners contributing to community programs and and poetry events and performing their work everywhere from Lincoln Center to the White House. Winning applicants each represent a different region and are chosen based on creativity, dedication and promise. This year's poets are Isabella Ramirez, from Lake Worth; Ethan Wang, from Katy, Texas; Manasi Garg, from Saratoga; Madelyn Dietz, from St. Paul, Minn.; and Anthony Wiles, from Sewickley, Pennsylvania. Each receives a $5,000 cash award.

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Casey Anthony, who has been in hiding since her July 2011 acquittal, may have been spotted dining at a Lake Worth restaurant, according to the Daily Mail. A cellphone picture shows a woman believed to be Anthony with a basket of chicken wings and French fries at a Flanigan's Seafood Bar and Grill on Tuesday, according to reports. Gossip Extra, which obtained the exclusive picture, reports that Pat McKenna, a private investigator who worked on Anthony's case and also help clear OJ Simpson, was seated across from her, according to a credit card receipt. Anthony was acquitted of the murder of Caylee Marie Anthony in July 2011. She served probation on check fraud charges for one year in Florida at an undisclosed location.
