Celebrities, cultural icons and a few surprise guests have paid tribute to honorees at the annual Kennedy Center Honors celebration in Washington.

O.J. Simpson’s “trial of the century” over the 1994 killings of his ex-wife and her friend bared divisions over race and law enforcement and brought an intersection of sports, crime, entertainment and class that was hard to turn away from.

Grateful Dead founding member Phil Lesh has died at age 84.

MusiCares, an organization that helps music professionals who need financial, personal or medical assistance, will honor the Grateful Dead as its 2025 Persons of the Year.
