On Sunday, SpaceX successfully launched the “Bandwagon-1″ mission to low-Earth orbit with a Falcon 9 rocket.

Central Floridians across social media said they heard a sonic boom Friday morning as the crew of Ax-3 plummeted back to Earth.

People living in and around the nation’s capital experienced a rare, if startling, sound: A sonic boom.

Sonic booms can sound as loud as an explosion, or, more quietly, like a rumble of thunder.

The Falcon 9 rocket was scheduled to liftoff at 9:45 a.m. Thursday but the launch was placed on hold about a minute beforehand.
