Classes are canceled at Spruce Creek High School in Volusia County due to a power outage.

Police say Johnny Thomas has been missing since Jan. 5. Thomas is described as a Black male standing nearly 6 ft. tall and weighing 140 pounds, according to authorities. VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. A picture circulating online shows dozens of students crowded into Spruce Creek High Schools atrium in a gathering the district says lasted only a few minutes. Volusia County Schools director of community information Kelly Schulz said the picture was taken at the Port Orange school Monday, the first day of the fall semester for the district, as students were waiting to receive their schedules. According to Schulz, staff members saw the large gathering and dispersed the crowd within a few minutes. Weve added additional lunch periods so that fewer students are at lunch at one time. Hallways are monitored for distancing and many schools have one-way traffic to allow students to remain apart as they transition during class periods.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Four girls who had been missing for nearly a week were found Monday, according to the Port Orange Police Department. Heaven Akins, Destiny Thompson, Mandie Jefferson and Katrina Carroll had been missing since Wednesday after they were last seen near Spruce Creek High School. Police said they likely left the area voluntarily to travel to Orlando. Authorities said deputies with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office found the girls and are interviewing them. No further details were immediately available.
