The friend of a prominent Congolese opposition leader’s son said he turned down a six-figure offer to travel there as part of the family’s security detail in what turned out to be a failed coup attempt.

Three Volusia County men were arrested in a nationwide child sex sting operation after the suspects sent explicit messages and traveled to meet who they though were girls 15 or younger, the sheriff’s office announced Monday.

An Orlando man was sentenced to 40 years in the Florida State Prison and 45 years of sex offender probation for 30 felony child sex crimes, according to the Office of the State Attorney.

A missing 13-year-old girl was found in a Volusia County hotel room with a 22-year-old Orlando man who deputies say met the victim online. Volusia County Deputy Royce James spoke to a friend of the missing girl and learned she had plans to meet with someone she met online. James determined the victim met with Tyler Thompson, 22, at a local Dollar General and the suspect took her to an area hotel. “Just absolutely GREAT WORK by Deputy James & all who played a part in bringing home this 13-year-old girl,” Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said in a tweet. Thompson was released from the Volusia County Branch Jail Friday after posting $15,000 bail.
