NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. Hurricane Isaias has made landfall near Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, according to the National Hurricane Center. The Hurricane Center said it expected the storm to make landfall early Tuesday near southern North Carolina. Still, on this part of the South Carolina and North Carolina coasts that has been affected to varying degrees by seven tropical storms or hurricanes since 2014, residents weren't panicking. Up the coast in southern North Carolina, high winds from Isaias inner core knocked down trees and power lines, blocking roads. Farther up the coast into North Carolina, the hurricane center predicted storm surges of 3 to 5 feet (0.9 to 1.5 meters) when Isaias moves onshore.

ORLANDO, Fla. With Isaias moving further away from Florida, the Orlando area will return to its normal summertime setup, with heat index readings in the triple digits and rain chances at 60% Tuesday afternoon. The hurricane had touched down just after 11 p.m. Monday with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph (136 km/h). The storm now has maximum sustained winds of 70 miles per hour (117 km/h). Isaas will keep racing up the East Coast today, with typical temperatures, humidity levels and storm chances left behind for us. The system is forecast to move northwest at about 10 mph over the southwestern Atlantic on Tuesday.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Officials announced SunRail will suspend service on Monday due to Hurricane Isaias. Sunrail said crews will begin working to prepare the corridor and render it safe before the storm. Crews will secure railroad gates at 127 railroad crossings. Officials said crews will also inspect and store the SunRail train fleet. Hurricane Isaias is projected to be in the Florida area on Saturday.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. As Hurricane Isaias approaches the Florida coast, hundreds of power crews are already in position and ready to respond in case of power outages. FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. Flagler County is making final preparations ahead of Hurricane Isaias. Isaias will likely make its greatest impact to Flagler County between 7 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday with tropical-storm-force winds, Lord said. BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Brevard County is now under a hurricane warning, according to News 6 Chief Meteorologist Tom Sorrells. On Friday evening, Hurricane Isaias slowly made a shift to the west prompting officials at the National Weather Service to initiate the warning. The latest models have the eye skirting the Brevard County coast around 2 p.m. Sunday. Brevard County has not been hit by hurricane-force sustained winds in 40 years, according to information obtained by FLORIDA TODAY in 2019 from the Brevard County Emergency Management office. That’s not to say Brevard County has not had hurricane-force gusts, but nothing sustained since the Jimmy Carter administration.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Volusia County is preparing for Hurricane Isaias that could make an impact this weekend. Volusia County Beach Safety Patrol said it has already packed up non-essential items like trash receptacles and playground canopies but leaving behind some traffic signs, cones and lifeguards until Saturday afternoon. Tammy Malphurs said one positive takeaway from the hurricane is a solution to the soft sand problem. Lifeguards said they’re prepared for what may come but beachgoers still need to be on alert, as the red flag will be flying for unfavorable beach conditions. “What’s really important to know is when those conditions die down, we could have very hazardous rip current conditions,” Malphurs said.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With Hurricane Isaias on a projected path to start impacting Florida as early as Saturday, a state of emergency has been declared along Florida’s east coast. DeSantis also said it’s possible he could provide another Hurricane Isaias update later Friday evening. Models show the eye moving alongside Florida’s southeast coast Saturday evening then continuing up toward the Central Florida coast Sunday morning through the evening. VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Hurricane Isaias is heading our way and right now, it looks like Florida’s east coast will be feeling its impact. The state’s east coast is under a state of emergency and a hurricane watch has been issued for much of that same area. Jim Judge, the director of Volusia County’s emergency management department, explained what residents can expect when the hurricane hits. “Every year we work with the school district and basically we’ve got about 32 schools on standby should we need them and then also we have the Volusia County Fairgrounds,” Judge said. New Hurricane Isaias kept on a path early Friday that’s expected continue on toward our country’s East Coast by the weekend. Isaias had maximum sustained winds of 80 mph Friday morning and was centered about 15 miles south-southwest of Great Inagua Island in the Bahamas, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. Phonetically, it’s “ees-ah-EE-ahs.”There are different ways to pronounce Isaias, but for the sake of a named storm, the National Hurricane Center has informed meteorologists this pronunciation will be the standard. A hurricane warning was in effect for the northwestern Bahamas, including Andros Island, New Providence, Eleuthera, Abaco Islands, Berry Islands, Grand Bahama and Bimini. The National Hurricane Center was monitoring two other disturbances Friday morning, both over the tropical Atlantic Ocean.

ORLANDO, Fla. – As Florida awaits the weekend impacts of Hurricane Isaias, it will be a scorcher -- and mostly dry -- Friday in the Orlando area. Impacts across Central Florida appear to be low, with the biggest risk occurring right along the coast. Rain will be heavy at times and winds will be the strongest within Isaias' outer rain bands. It will not rain all weekend, but some of the rain bands can be nasty for a short time. Tropical downpours containing heavy rain and gusty winds will still be possible, just less widespread.

SAN JUAN Forecasters declared a hurricane warning for parts of the Florida coast Friday as Hurricane Isaias drenched the Bahamas on a track for the U.S. East Coast. Bahamas Power and Light Co. cut off power in certain areas for safety. A hurricane warning was in effect for northwest and central Bahamas. Please do not engage in hurricane or COVID(-19) parties, he said. Isaias was expected to produce 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 centimeters) of rain in the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. Officials with Flagler Countys Emergency Operation Center held a news conference Friday ahead of Hurricane Isaias. Flagler County officials warn of flooding similar to what Floridians saw with Hurricane Dorian. Flagler County issued a local state of emergency with Gov. All residents in Flagler county should be prepared to shelter in place.Flagler County shelters will have separate areas for those who know they have COVID-19 or are showing symptoms of the virus, according to EOC officials. The storms path and strength remain fluid, but the governor said theres a possibility Isaias could become a Category 2 hurricane.

MIAMI Hurricane Isaias imminent arrival forced the closure of some outdoor coronavirus testing sites Friday even as the state reached a new daily high in deaths. Hurricane watches and storm warnings were in effect in many areas of Floridas east coast, prompting residents to buy sandbags and board up their homes. Isaias was forecast to strengthen Friday while moving near or over the Bahamas and was expected to approach South Florida on Saturday or Sunday. ORLANDO, Fla. With the threat of Hurricane Isaias approaching Floridas coast, a Central Florida senior living community said its been a challenge revising time-tested plans to incorporate protocols for COVID-19. Bryce Robinson is the Senior Regional Director of Operations for Sonata Senior Living, in Orlando, and said theyve initiated Phase I of their Emergency Preparedness Plan. Officials with Sonata Senior Living said their Emergency Preparedness Plan now includes having personal protective equipment at the ready, and preparations for keeping residents socially distant. However, he said there are protocols in place for when those residents return to their senior living communities. Ron DeSantis said 100% of the states nursing homes and assisted living facilities have working generators on site.

ORLANDO, Fla. As Hurricane Isaias continues on a path toward Florida, forecasters are now monitoring a tropical depression in the Atlantic. Tropical Depression 10 formed Friday afternoon in the far eastern Atlantic, according to the National Hurricane Center. A tropical storm watch is also in effect from the Flagler-Volusia county line to Ponte Vedre Beach, according to the NHC, which means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours. ORLANDO, Fla. With Hurricane Isaias slated to brush up against Floridas east coast this weekend, Orange County emergency management officials are preparing the area to prevent flooding but do not plan to open hurricane shelters as of Friday afternoon. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings assured the community the county can handle the ongoing coronavirus pandemic along with an impending hurricane. Orange County has a capacity to really deal with both. The mayor said if residents would like to shelter in area hotels, about 84% of lodging options are open in Orange County with about 60% of rooms available. Orange County Public Safety Director Danny Banks said the county began prepping for hurricane season early this year because of COVID-19.
