4 dead in 3 Central Florida crashes Monday, FHP says

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Four people were killed Monday morning in three separate Central Florida crashes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The first crash was reported at 12:33 a.m. in the northbound lanes of SR 417 at University Boulevard.

Jahqui Sevilla, 20, of Orlando and 53-year-old Soraya Matias-Roth from Lakeland were killed in the two-vehicle crash.

Troopers said three others were injured, including a 10-year-old boy who was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. The child was reported as stable at 7:30 a.m., FHP Public Affairs Officer Kim Montes told News 6.

The other two suffered minor injuries and are expected to be OK.

The crash was caused when the 20-year-old woman heading south on SR 417 lost control of her Mitsubishi Lancer and veered into the northbound lanes of SR 417, crashing head on into Matias-Roth's Dodge Durango, according to the crash report.

In another crash later Monday morning on Colonial Drive at Old Cheney, a 47-year-old Orlando man was killed, troopers said. The FHP identified him later in the week as Angelo Acevedo Rodriguez.

The second crash, reported at 3:10 a.m., happened when the man lost control of his vehicle on eastbound Colonial Drive and left the road, hitting a light pole, according to the crash report.

The car split in two and entered the parking lot of a nearby auto mall. Eight cars in that parking lot were struck or damaged by the vehicle, police said.

"What was he thinking? Because he didn't -- we assessed the street and there's no brake marks. What was going through that guy's head?" said Mike Freeman, who co-owns a car business next to the crash site.

Freemand said the same thing happened earlier this year.

"Back in January, it happened to our lot over here. To that bus stop right there. Fortunately, no one lost their life and we didn't sustain as much damage as they did but yeah, we have had this happen to us as well," Freeman said.

One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash reported at 11 a.m. in Osceola County at US 192 and Griffen Road, according to the FHP.

FHP is investigating all three crashes.

Montes said last year, troopers investigated seven fatalities in the Central Florida area during the Memorial Holiday weekend.

As of Monday morning, they had already worked six.
