NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – One teenager was killed and two other people were injured early Wednesday in a head-on crash in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said Lydia Medore, 18, of Boa Raton, died in the crash, which was reported around 1 a.m. on State Road 415 near Colony Road between Deltona and New Smyrna Beach.
The FHP said Medore was a passenger in a 2017 four-door Toyota driven by a 22-year-old Hallandale Beach man. They were traveling south on S.R. 415, passed a vehicle in front of them and completed the legal pass, returning to the southbound lanes, the FHP said.
Troopers said a 21-year-old Sanford woman was driving a 2006 four-door Nissan north on S.R. 415 but traveled into the southbound lanes and struck the Toyota head-on.
The driver of the Toyota suffered serious injuries and was also taken to Halifax Medical Center.
The driver of the Nissan suffered minor injuries and was taken to Halifax Medical Center.
All three victims were wearing their seat belts, the FHP said.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the FHP.
Charges are pending, troopers said.
