Man faces DUI manslaughter charge in crash that split car, killed girl

'This is a void that they will never be bale to fill,' attorney says

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – A 40-year-old man was arrested on DUI manslaughter charges in connection with a Seminole County crash that split a car in half and killed a 9-year-old girl, police said Friday.

Ulises Andree Mora, 40, was arrested in the fatal crash, which occurred March 29 at the intersection of Montgomery Road and Jamestown Boulevard in Altamonte Springs, according to police.

Authorities said Mora was driving a Porsche and crashed into an Acura, which was occupied by a family of four. The impact caused the Acura to be split in half and ejected the rear passengers, a 12-year-old boy and a girl identified by the family's attorney as Keilani Carrro, officials said.

Witnesses said the Porsche was traveling up to 80 mph in a 40 mph zone, according to an arrest report.

Marvi Mercado lives in the apartment complex right next to where the crash happened. She ran out of her home after she heard the impact.

"Screaming, smoke everywhere. It was horrible. I still can't get the images out of my head," Mercado said.

Keilani, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown 176 feet and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The boy was thrown 44 feet and was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to authorities.

According to police, an investigation revealed that speed was a factor in the crash, and toxicology reports revealed Mora was under the influence of alcohol. According to an arrest report, Mora had a blood alcohol level of 0.123, above the legal limit of 0.08 in Florida.

"Although we weren't physically able to arrest him the night of the incident, we know we have a solid case now with toxicology reports and the totality of everything that occurred that night," Evelyn Estevez with Altamonte Springs police said.

A passenger in Mora's car said Mora wanted to "show off" the Porsche, which he recently purchased.

Mora, who has no criminal history, according to his attorney, was arrested and taken to the Seminole County Jail.

A judge on Friday granted Mora a $15,000 bond and said if he's released, he cannot consume alcohol and must wear an ankle monitor that can detect alcohol or drug use.

The family's attorney, Christopher Monts, said they are seeking justice for Keilani and are still grieving the loss of their youngest child.

"This is a void that they will never be bale to fill, but it's one of the things that we hope with prayer and with time they can learn to move on," Monts said.

Mora's attorney, Matt Olszweski, was in court Friday afternoon. He said he will defend his client.

"I think obviously anyone would feel remorse and our hearts go out to that family," Olszweski said.
