Pedestrian struck, killed in Melbourne, police say

Fatal crash occurred in area of North Wickham Road, Parkway Drive

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle Thursday evening in Melbourne, according to police.

The fatal crash occurred around 6:50 p.m. in the area of North Wickham Road and Parkway Drive, police said in a news release.

The pedestrian was crossing North Wickham Road in the southbound travel lanes — outside of a marked crosswalk — when they were struck by a Toyota utility vehicle being driven by an 87-year-old Melbourne man, the release states. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital and was later pronounced dead, police said.

It’s unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, according to police.

The crash is still being investigated, the release states.
