LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A 55-year-old Leesburg man died early Wednesday after being struck by a car while walking on a Lake County road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash occurred around 6:38 a.m. on Griffin Road, west of Pioneer Trail, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, a 63-year-old Leesburg man driving a 2020 Volkswagen Passat east on Griffin Road advised he did not see the other man walking in the eastbound lane. After the Volkswagen struck the pedestrian, the driver remained at the scene, troopers said.
The Volkswagen driver was not injured, but the pedestrian was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to FHP.

A roadblock was established for both directions of travel on Griffin Road and remained in place at the time of this report, troopers said.
FHP is still investigating.
