Bicyclist dies after hit-and-run crash in Pine Hills, FHP says

PINE HILLS, Fla. – A 71-year-old Orlando man riding a bicycle through Pine Hills died after being struck in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 1:10 a.m. as the bicyclist traveled south on Powers Drive, south of Indian Hill Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the driver of an unknown vehicle also traveling south on Powers Drive did not stop or slow down for the Orlando man ahead of them. The front right of the vehicle struck the man as a result, the report states.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.

Traffic homicide investigators have since found a car part at the scene from a vehicle possibly involved in the hit-and-run crash, with troopers advising it may have been a 2021-2023 Kia K5 of an unknown color. Such a car would have front-right damage, according to the crash report.
