ORLANDO, Fla. – News 6 traffic safety expert Trooper Steve Montiero answers viewer questions about the rules of the road, helping Orlando-area residents become better drivers by being better educated.
Trooper Steve was asked by viewer Steven, “Why am I always seeing a tinted or a clear plexiglass cover over license plates? Isn’t this illegal?”
“Well, Steven is correct, this is illegal. I understand we all like to do certain things to our cars and decorate the way we feel, but our license plate is something that is completely off limits.”
A driver or owner of a vehicle should leave their license plate just as they received it, plain and simple, with a current registration sticker in the top right corner.
“Under Florida law, technically anything you place other than the sticker on your license plate is considered an infraction. Meaning you can be pulled over for it, so all of the clear covers or tinted covers are a violation and you could receive a ticket for it.”
