LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A crash involving a Florida Highway Patrol cruiser prompted the closure of Florida’s Turnpike in Lake County, according to officials.
The three-vehicle crash happened around 7:10 a.m. Monday in the northbound lanes near mile marker 277 in Clermont.
The FHP said a 2018 Ford F-150 was traveling north on the Turnpike when the driver lost control of the pickup truck, ran off the road and struck a concrete wall before rotating and veering back into northbound lanes.
A marked FHP Dodge Charger attempted to avoid the pickup but the left front of the F-150 collided with the front of the cruiser, officials said.
The pickup then rotated again, with the back of the truck hitting another car, the FHP said.
The trooper was taken to Southlake Hospital with minor injuries, according to the FHP, which added that the other drivers were not injured and remained at the scene.
Northbound lanes of the Turnpike were closed after the crash but were later reopened.
