According to an FHP crash report, the driver of an SUV traveling north in the inside lane of Michigan Avenue lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway to the left, into southbound lanes. The left front of the SUV then struck the left rear of a car that was traveling south in the outside lane of Michigan Avenue, causing the car to spin counterclockwise and strike a van that was traveling north behind the SUV, the report states.
The SUV continued in a westerly direction and struck a curb, overturning onto its roof into a water drainage ditch, troopers said. Its driver, who FHP identified as a 61-year-old Kissimmee man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Of the six other people involved in the crash — three in the car, two in the van and a passenger in the SUV— the car’s two passengers were hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries and the SUV passenger, who suffered critical injuries, was also taken to a hospital, troopers said.
The car’s driver and both occupants of the van were not injured, troopers said, adding everyone involved in the wreck was wearing seat belts.
FHP is still investigating.
