ORLANDO, Fla. – News 6 traffic safety expert Trooper Steve Montiero answers viewer questions about the rules of the roads, helping Central Florida residents become better drivers by being better educated.
Trooper Steve on Thursday was asked by Bobby M., “Central Florida Parkway between I-Drive and South Orange Blossom Trail is labeled as 10-ton weight limit. Why no enforcement for these trucks?”
Commercial motor vehicles can get interesting. In the stretch of roadway we’re talking about, largely referred to as the Williamsburg area, there are indeed signs out there which limit the types of vehicles allowed on the asphalt. But, how are those rules enforced?

“I’m going to speak very carefully here because not every cop is aware of commercial motor vehicle law, it is a very specific area, so what I am going to give Bobby is a resource because I can’t answer why it’s not being enforced,” Trooper Steve said. “I would recommend that you contact the Florida Highway Patrol. If you contact Lt. Crescenzi with FHP, she has the access directly to the commercial motor vehicle troopers.”
According to Trooper Steve, FHP’s commercial motor vehicle troopers don’t even need probable cause to stop a car because they’re federally-regulated.
“So, I’d contact them if you’d like some specific enforcement,” he said.
