In a news conference Thursday, Winter Springs Police Chief Matthew Tracht said Escobar was driving a white Toyota when she sped through a red light and collided with a white Honda driven by Tiffany Alexander.

The mother of three was sent to the hospital and later died, according to the Seminole County Fire Department.

“She had her two kids in the backseat. They are OK, thank God. This accident could have been totally prevented,” Tracht said.

Police said Escobar was nearly five times the legal limit with a 0.38 BAC — the legal limit is 0.08.

“She was late for work and she was going back to work,” Tracht said. “She is a bartender. She did tell us her last alcoholic drinks were about 1:30 in the morning.”

Escobar faces multiple charges, including vehicular DUI homicide and unlawful blood alcohol causing injury. She has bonded out of the Seminole County Jail.

“Our police department offers our sincere condolences and sympathy to the Alexander family and cannot even imagine what they are trying to process,” the department said in a news release.

A GoFundMe account was created to assist the Alexander family. It has reached more than $95,000 with a goal of $100,000.
