1 teen killed, 1 injured when car goes airborne, crashes on I-Drive near Orlando

Florida troopers investigate fatal wreck

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 16-year-old Kissimmee boy was killed and a 16-year-old Orlando boy was critically injured early Monday when their car went airborne on International Drive in Orange County and crashed into two signs and a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle fatal wreck happened around 12:30 a.m. on I-Drive near Tanglewood Bay Drive near Orlando.

The FHP said the Kissimmee boy was driving a 2006 Ford Fusion south on I-Drive approaching a private entrance at Tanglewood Bay Drive.

For unknown reasons, the Fusion struck a curb and went airborne before striking a traffic sign, a concrete community entrance sign and a tree, a FHP crash report stated.

The car then overturned, ejecting the boys from the vehicle, the crash report said. Neither teen was wearing a seat belt, according to troopers.

The Kissimmee boy was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.

The Orlando boy was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
