Florida man killed in nearly head-on crash on US Highway 301 in Sumter County

18-year-old Webster woman suffers minor injuries

BUSHNELL, Fla. – A Florida man was killed Sunday night in a nearly head-on crash in Sumter County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal wreck happened around 9:45 p.m. on U.S. Highway 301 near County Road 700.

The FHP said a 49-year-old Dade City man was driving a Kia South north on Highway 301 when he entered the southbound lane and struck a Hyundai Elantra.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers.

The other driver, an 18-year-old Webster woman, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, the FHP said.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media that all lanes of U.S. Highway 301 from County Road 650 to County Road 652A were closed due to the crash. The roadway was later reopened.
