MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers are being advised of temporary lane closures likely during the installation of a gateway project above Interstate 75 into Marion County.

The Gateway Project is being coordinated between the county and FDOT. Funded entirely by Tourist Development Tax revenue, the southernmost gateway will be installed at the 42nd Street flyover to welcome northbound I-75 traffic to Marion County, according to a news release.

Most on-site construction is set to begin in the fall with completion of the project expected by early 2025, the release states.

Temporary lane closures are likely during mid-summer into the fall months of 2024, in part as the outer towers of the gateway — featuring Marion County’s logo — are installed, the release states. Work is currently being done off-site to construct various aesthetic features for the gateway, renderings of which feature silhouettes of oak and palm trees with mounted and saddle-free horses trotting among them.

This gateway is one of two that Marion County commissioners are making arrangements for, with the other set to adorn a future I-75 interchange just north of Ocala and not far from the planned Buc-ee’s Ocala Travel Center.
