WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A 16-year-old girl was badly hurt Wednesday when an SUV drove onto the sidewalk and hit her as she sat on a curb in Winter Haven, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 12:39 p.m. as a 60-year-old Winter Haven woman drove a Toyota RAV4 eastbound along Avenue B Southeast, approaching 6th Street, troopers said.

The driver “became distracted by a loud, unknown noise” when the SUV went up on the sidewalk, hitting the girl, troopers said.
The driver was not hurt, but the girl was hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries, according to FHP.
