Sanford teen dies in crash with tree on Reed Ellis Road in Volusia County

17-year-old lost control of Lexus, Florida troopers say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 17-year-old Sanford teen was killed when the Lexus he was driving crashed into a tree late Tuesday in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal wreck happened around 10 p.m. on Reed Ellis Road near State Road 415.

The FHP said the teen was headed east on Reed Ellis Road and traveling above the speed limit when he lost control of the car, ran off the road and collided with a tree.

The teen was taken to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital and was later pronounced dead, according to troopers.

An FHP crash report shows the teen was wearing a seat belt.

No other details have been released.
