ORLANDO, Fla. – Results are being shown as sworn and community service officers with the Orlando Police Department continue to collaborate for parking detail at the city’s international airport, according to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

The effort began June 6 — outside of regular patrol hours — focused on areas along Jeff Fuqua Boulevard, State Road 528 and the entrance to Terminal C where parking is prohibited, GOAA said in a news release.

This targeted approach to combating illegal parking has had a significant impact, the release states. 1,619 vehicles were moved from parking-prohibited areas during the month of June and 420 have been moved so far in July, according to GOAA.

“We understand that parking can be a challenge during peak travel periods, but parking on shoulders is never an acceptable solution,” Kevin J. Thibault, GOAA CEO, said in a statement. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of all airport users and by working in conjunction with the Orlando Police Department, we are making campus roadways safer for everyone.”

Most drivers move along when prompted by officers, but some could receive warnings or citations, according to the release.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and to allow for extra time while parking, such as in a designated free cellphone parking lot if they’re picking up arriving airline passengers.
