SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A sinkhole forced the temporary closure of a section of County Road 542 West in Sumter County on Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office.
C.R. 542 W was shut down between U.S. 301 and County Road 475 (N Main Street), the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said on social media.
The sinkhole opened in the area of railroad tracks and CSX was notified, along with the county road department, the post states. Sheriff’s office and fire department personnel were reportedly at the scene as of around noon Saturday.
Shortly after 2 p.m., the sheriff’s office announced C.R. 542 W was back open for normal traffic. CSX had since responded to the scene and inspected the railroad tracks, which passed scrutiny, according to the update.
