MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 16-year-old girl was among two people killed in a crash that left two others hurt in Marion County on Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 4:50 p.m. on U.S. 41 near NW 13th Street, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, a pickup truck with two occupants traveling northbound on U.S. 41 went off the roadway to the right when its driver lost control of the vehicle. The pickup truck began to rotate while traveling toward an oncoming sedan in the southbound lane, also carrying two occupants, the report states.

The front of the sedan struck the right side of the pickup truck and the truck’s passenger — a 55-year-old Dunnellon woman — was ejected and later pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. The pickup truck came to final rest obstructing the southbound lane of U.S. 41 while the sedan ended up on the west shoulder of U.S. 41, facing in a southerly direction, according to FHP.

The 54-year-old Dunnellon man who was driving the pickup truck and the 51-year-old Beverly Hills woman who was driving the sedan were both hospitalized for treatment of critical injuries, the report states. The sedan’s passenger, a 16-year-old Beverly Hills girl, was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead, according to FHP.

Neither of the pickup truck’s occupants were wearing a seat belt in the crash, troopers said, adding the two occupants of the sedan were wearing seat belts.

No other details have been shared or confirmed at the time of this report.
