1 killed in crash with tree in DeLand, police say

DeLAND, Fla. – A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in DeLand early Sunday, according to police.

Officers and firefighters responded around 12:21 a.m. to East International Speedway Boulevard, where the driver of a passenger car traveling westbound had lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree while attempting to cross over North Woodland Boulevard, the DeLand Police Department said in a statement.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, adding she was the vehicle’s only occupant.

An investigation is ongoing.
