Man driving pickup killed in Lake County crash with dump truck after tree falls on vehicle

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was killed and two others were injured Tuesday in a Lake County crash on County Road 474 after a tree fell on their pickup, causing them to collide with a dump truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 4:25 p.m. on CR-474 near State Road 33.

According to a crash report, a 58-year-old Groveland man was driving the pickup west on CR-474 when a tree fell onto the vehicle, causing it to go into the eastbound lane in the path of an oncoming dump truck.

The left side of the pickup collided with the side of the dump truck.

The 58-year-old and his passengers, a 40-year-old Groveland woman and a 34-year-old Groveland man, were airlifted to a nearby hospital. The 58-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital, the woman was critically injured and the other man was seriously injured.

The road was was closed from the Cemex Sand Mine to SR-33 in the Clermont area but later reopened.

The dump truck driver, a 47-year-old Kissimmee man, was uninjured.

An investigation is ongoing.
