2 hurt when car strikes fence, pole before plunging into Seminole County pond

Crash happened at Bird Road and Lake Drive in Winter Springs

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A driver and passenger in their 70s were taken to the hospital after their vehicle plunged into a pond in Seminole County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened Sunday evening on East Lake Drive and Bird Road in Winter Springs.

According to a crash report, a Toyota Avalon was traveling south on Bird Road, approaching Lake Drive when the vehicle ran off the road, striking the fence and power pole before crashing into the pond.

Troopers said the vehicle then became submerged in the water.

The driver, identified as a 76-year-old man from Casselberry, and the passenger, a 76-year-old woman, were both transported to Oviedo Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report.

The crash remains under investigation.
