DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. – A large washout formed along the side of Interstate 95 on Saturday afternoon, blocking traffic on the highway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
In a release, troopers said a sinkhole emerged around 3:31 p.m. on the right shoulder of southbound I-95, south of Phillips Highway.

As a result, the right lanes of traffic were blocked as crews responded to the “sinkhole,” troopers added.
Later in the evening, though, troopers announced that it was no longer considered a sinkhole but rather was determined to be a large washout.
“Although it is not a sinkhole, caution should still be used while traveling in the area, as there are only three lanes open on Interstate 95 for southbound travel,” the release reads.
As of 10 p.m., troopers said that the right-center lane, right lane, and exit ramp to Philips Highway from southbound I-95 were closed.
